Fun, funny, insightful, Tales From the Back Row is a sneak peek at the fashion industry from one fashion challenged writer. Odell loves Beyoncé, her House of Dereon towel and fashion and we’re practically twins except I admire the fashion industry from afar. I find fashion inspiring and more fantasy than reality. I would love nothing more than to get a designer dress from so and so, but there’s no way I’m spending $500 on it. I’m more into attainable fashion ie. when (insert fancy designer) does a Target collection, I’m all over it. That’s why I enjoyed Odell’s story so much. She is engaging and relatable. It’s like talking to someone who just gets why you think Rachel Zoe is baaahnanaaahs and why designer sweatpants are perfectly suitable for brunch.
Saucy and sassy without being mean it reads like a fun afternoon with your girlfriend. Tales offers up enough anecdotes to be personable and dishy but not braggy. I did wander off for a bit when Odell goes wedding dress shopping. Reading about wedding dress shopping is as much fun as being the fifth bridesmaid stuck at the kiddie table with no champagne chaser. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed behind the scenes look at the fashion scene and am happy that Odell stays real even if she has moved up figuratively and literally from the back row.
